Ephesians 6:10-14, “A final word:  Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  Therefore put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.  Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth …”

Ok, let’s be honest here, ladies.  When you start to describe the ‘coolest outfit ever’ I highly doubt you start by describing the belt.

But today, this just might be the most important accessory in our closet!

The Belt of Truth or the loin belt is our first thing we are going to grab out of our closet.  The loin belt was essential to the Roman soldier because it wasn’t just any ordinary belt.  It actually held other pieces of weaponry that the soldier needed and didn’t just accentuate his waist.  This belt held the breastplate together and even had clips on the sides to rest the shield and sword.

The soldiers wore these huge oversized tunics and they certainly needed these belts to keep them tight to their bodies so they didn’t trip over them.  (Picture in your mind the silly boys that don’t wear a belt and their pants keep sagging).  If the soldiers  tunic was long then they would tuck it under the belt so that they could do battle without tripping.  Shall we stop and get a visual of what sagging royal soldiers would look like?  HA!!

Our accessory, or belt,  is God’s Word.  It is our most important piece of weaponry and we will need this daily to stand firm against the attacks of satan and like a Christian soldier, we need His Word tight against our body!   Just like our belt holds up our pants, we need to have God’s Word stored in our hearts and apply it, or our life will start falling apart at the seams or worse, down around our ankles.

As caregivers of these special needs children, we are definitely in a battle each day!  And don’t think that you can’t get ‘touched’ by a spiritual attack….satan is aggressive and he will bring it.  We get tired, cranky, anxious — but God’s Word says, “Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him” in 1 Chronicles 16:11.

Having His Word in our hearts is something that is so important to me and something I talk about continuously in my book, Special Kids, Chosen Moms.  This is a necessity!  In order to take care of your child, your family, and YOU, please find time to speak and listen to God.  As Christians, we cannot neglect God’s Word.  When we neglect His Word we neglect Him and then we are in danger of drifting far, far from the peace that He provides.

Here are some powerful promises for those worrisome moments:

Know that in despair there is always hope.  Fact.  We screw up.  Maybe we lose our temper with our little ones….it happens.  But just remember each and every morning we can have a fresh supply of His mercy. (Lamentations 3:21-23, “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:  The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”)

Know that God is in control and He knows the plans for you!  (Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, “says the Lord.  “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”)

Know that when you feel alone, God is right there by your side! (Romans 8:38-39, “I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Don’t wait for Sunday to get “word” from the pastor.  In other words, as an adult, you would never drive to your parents house and have them boost you up into a high chair, place a bib around your neck and spoon feed you, would you?  Then don’t drive to church JUST to have your pastor or Sunday School teacher feed you scriptures!  God has given YOU His Word for YOU to read and apply to your life!

Remember that you are in the spotlight and the world is watching to see how you are responding to the daily caregiving as a Christian.  God has chosen YOU to make a difference!  AND keep in mind that your little one didn’t ask for his circumstances.  When you begin your morning with Jesus you will see that HE is our strength and peace, and your face and your tone of voice will be reflected in that truth.  So let us hold onto our belt of truth.  Our mighty King has supplied our armor for all the spiritual wrestling that the enemy cannot pierce with his weapons.  Draw closer to God, memorize His Word and let it penetrate our souls so you can become steadfast warrior women!

We have His power, ladies!!  So don’t be afraid to use it!!!

1 Kings 8:56, “Daily dwell on God’s promises to you.  Hide them in your heart and always remember, “Not one word has failed of all His good promise.”
