The year was 1987 and I had just delivered a beautiful baby boy. I remember thinking, “He’s perfect!” And yes, he was perfect and I was so anxious to see him grow up with my then 2 1/2 year old son; they were going to be the best of friends.

Then came day 3. Sent home from the hospital that morning, I was elated, however that emotion didn’t last long. His first seizure came about two hours after we arrived home. The fear I felt in those next hours was almost too much to bear. (You can read more of my story in my book, Special Kids, Chosen Moms here).

The word ‘fear’ appears about 400 times in the King James Version of the Bible. We know fear begins in the mind because an emotion starts as a thought and then becomes a feeling. On that day in 1987 I could only call out to God for help because I knew that He was in absolute control and I was not.

There are many names for God. One name for God is El Elyon, which means the Most High, the Almighty God, the Sovereign Ruler of all the universe.

Our God is the Sovereign Ruler of all…..ALL the universe. Once we can wrap our minds around this fact, we can understand that there is nothing that happens that is out of His control.

When fear hits we must immediately go to El Elyon and the Word of God. I’ll say it again … there is nothing that happens that is out of His control. You may think your situation is unique and spiraling downward, and it very well may be, but it does not go unnoticed. He does have a purpose in it all.

  • Is it to draw you closer to Him?
  • Is it to let others see Jesus in you?
  • Is it so you can comfort another mother when they are also troubled?

Have you asked Him to show you His purpose?

Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”

God is our source of comfort and we can boldly approach Him and tell Him our fears, our troubles and more importantly, our thoughts! Tell Him that you feel bombarded with negative and fearful thoughts. Ask Him to be your Comforter and confidently ask Him to help you to be more faithful in your prayer life and learning scripture.

Run to El Elyon. Trust in His name as the Sovereign Ruler of ALL the universe and allow Him to soothe your soul.

(I have another post on fear, ( you might be interest in) Thx!!
